You can't spell "pirates" without "parties."
Alright, this is gonna be kind of a secondary review. (I'm going to the drive-in to see it on Wednesday, and after that I'm sure I'll have EVEN MORE to post, yayzers.)
But first, another wondering thought: That Jack voodoo doll that's on the skull on the promotional posters. Was that intended to be a plot point that got taken out due to time constraints? Is it a plot point for the third movie? Is it just something to have (the lame answer)? So, yes, I want to know its purpose.
Anyway, my review since I never really did a full review, and since I've had some time to think:
It's as good as it could have been (except the one CGI scene, you know the one that bothers me); everyone has infinitely high hopes for a sequel and I think it did pretty damn well to hit the mark. Dark, but, hey, so's Temple of Doom and I think that pretty much failed when it came out. (Oh, what was that? PotC2 broke box-office records?) Of course things were lacking, and of course I'm wondering a gazillion things, but more than that I sit in disbelief at how good it was! More than anything, it's some fans that annoy me:
1) The people who complain and complain and complain about the cliffhanger ending and how they're gonna have to pay to see the third one when it comes out, just so they can know the ending. When the first movie succeeded, Disney decided they would make three. It's been three years; I'm pretty sure it's fairly common knowledge. Get over it!
2) The people who bitch about missing the ending. Once again, you claim to be obsessed and some of you don't even know there was a special ending after the credits of the first one. And you've watched the movie how many times?
3) Pople who half-ass it. Costumes, being a fangirl, whatever.
4) Slashy fans. I like my canon, thankyouverymuch.
