Yes, today is Day of the Dead, and All Saints' Day, I believe. Or maybe that's tomorrow, and today is All Souls' Day, I can't remember. So much for gradeschool.

Anyway, I usually do a holiday post, but it hasn't been the best of times lately (bombed a math test yesterday...not good...), so I've got some stuff for you today. It's also not my traditional HUGE HOLIDAY LINKSPAM du ENTERTAINMENT, but, you know, I don't really feel like scrounging up stuff from the depths of the internet. So I'm working with what I've got.

Here is a short halloween toon that I very much enjoy, simply because it is an amalgam of two very different things, which makes me very happy, haha. http://www.imagestation.com/album/pictures.html?id=2100110407
(The link where I got it from: http://community.livejournal.com/halloweenland/110953.html?view=189545#t189545)

And some really cool pumkins... scroll down towards the end of the original post to see what I'm talking about: http://community.livejournal.com/halloweenland/115365.html

Um...nothing for Dia de Los Muertos, lo siento. I'm really feeling the colors, too, looking for that nice orangey thing happening, yeah. I also ganked a cute kitty picture from Yahoo's Halloween page yesterday, but I don't feel like uploading to photobucket. I know, I'm lazy. I'm also in a bad mood.

OH OH OH, I know! The party last night: drinking Jones Soda, Holiday flavor: Candy Corn. Blech. It's sulphuric yellow. Courtney and I decided it's My Little Pony Urine. (I don't know where we got that. She said "my little pony" at the same time I said "toxic urine" and...yeah.) And then we watched The Haunted Mansion, which is good for mockery and way to predictable. (I called it SO. MANY. TIMES.) However, it IS better than the flop it was made out to be, and I recommend it. And here is more Halloweeny that I have had stored away for ages: http://www.hauntedportraits.com/Haunted-Mansion-Blueprints.htm

I promise when the next holiday I'm updating specially for, I will try harder and actually not be messy with links and all, but, meh, whatever.

Ok, so now RANT MODE, FULL SPEED AHEAD. I know campus is trying to get people to register early for Christmas on Campus and adopt little kids. It's really nice. But playing TSO's Christmas stuff BLASTINGLY LOUD on the plaza and "CHRISTMAS IS JUST 36 DAYS AWAY!" is pissing me off, majorly. I'm about to go stand out there with a sign that says: "What happened to Thanksgiving?" Seriously. OVERCOMMERCIALIZATION. I saw the first Christmas stuff about a month ago (Christmas catalog!), but I don't watch TV anymore, so I have no idea about commercials. It's disgusting. If you want to shop ahead, just do it! You don't need Super Duper Christmas Palooza in July to buy gifts for people, dear God. All this ruins my Christmasy mood, and I'm not referring to the fact that I'm angry now. I'm talking about how hyped it gets, and by the time Christmas rolls around... I have no good feelings left. I'm ALWAYS left feeling empty now. And I hate them for it. Add to that the fact that we weren't home for Christmas last year (Hawaii...nice but hot home, and no snow) nor will we be this year (FUCKING COLORADO, I FUCKING HATE YOU), and the lack of decorating and tree therefor at home... and blah. It sucks. Maybe I will buy those Christmas tights though, although not being in uniform has caused a sharp drop in the amount of bright tights/socks and jewelry I wear. Pfft. Goddamn commercialization, you're ruining my life, honestly.

In other, much perkier news, I think I'm going to get a beta fish. Some of my friends getting into Beta Beta Beta are selling them for $10 with a tank and food, so I think I'll go for it. I always feel kind of isolated in my room, so, you know by the end of the year, I'll be the crazy lady who talks only to her fish.

So I have to start thinking of good names and all...hmmmm.

HALLOWEEN/DAY OF THE DEAD-Y LOVE TO ALL!

So, pretty much as soon as I posted it hit me how I will name the betta fish. And yes, I also learned in the last half hour that it's "betta," not "beta." Damn greek alphabet. Anyway.

From "The Seven Faces of Dr. Lao," which is one of my favorite movies: Dr. Lao owns a tiny goldfish in a bowl, as one of his wonders-- he insists it's the Loch Ness Monster. Of course, I don't want to ruin part of the movie for you, so just borrow it from me sometime.

Also, Ursula Vernon (one of my favorite artists) has this slightly-recurring character, or type of character, which are some type of mage, or something. Wait, I'll go find the page to make this clearer.

OK, I think this is original image. I can't find the phrase I was looking for, which was "just don't ask about the goldfish."
The original?: http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/art/u/r/ursula/donkeyfish.jpg.html
The second: http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/art/u/r/ursula/donkeyfish2.jpg.html
Another of the type: http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/art/u/r/ursula/packrat.jpg.html

Hmm...and this was an inspiration some time ago, from deviantart when I was looking for Ursula Vernon's stuff. Her descriptions are usually better there, as well.

Ah-HA! I found the piece I was referring to, but I didn't find the Deviantart one, which I will keep looking for. So here's the one with the quote...ish: http://www.metalandmagic.com/modules.php?set_albumName=anthromorphic&id=wombatgear&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_photo.php

AND HERE WE HAVE... the goldfish one that triggered my memory of Dr. Lao's fish: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/10232003/?qo=8&q=by%3Aghostmoon701&qh=sort%3Atime+-in%3Ascraps

Ahem, SO. (I've been working on this post for a few good hours, through lunch and my classes. So that explains the rambliness and why the times are wrong and whatnot...ex, the post is marked 12:11 pm, but now it's 2:09.) I love Dr. Lao, so that will be the main inspiration for my fish, but I have also projected it onto Ursula Vernon's fish. (She is one of my favorite artists. =^n.n^=)

So, I was thinking, all right, it's the Loch Ness Monster. Only, I was like, OK, I think in the movie it has a name, so I will call it that, and for now it was something like Nessie. And then Nessa popped into my head, and I was like, hey! That's awesome, I can work Wicked in there, too. Only it's a girl's name and the fish is probably a male. SO. I'm just going to go with "The Loch Ness Monster" as the name of my betta.

And aparently I need to find a larger tank and also get some kind of tank warmer... as my roomie keeps the room about 55 and the tank needs to be in the 70s.

So, anyone know much about bettas?
