It's been a long, weird day. I pulled what I would consider to be my first academic all-nighter. I started my huge packet of engineering ethics last night around 9:30, and gave up this morning at 7:00 when Candice came down and put the news on, because I can't work with the TV on.

I think I did pretty well. I tried to rely on several different techniques to stay awake; eating and drinking, mostly, because you supposedly learn better when you're chewing anyway (they proved it with gum), taking a break every 1.5-2 or so hours (I would watch an episode of HIMYM season 3), and refusing to go to bed until it was done.

Disregarding the 7 am thing, of course. I slept for less than three hours; I was planning to wake up at 10 and I woke up a little before, probably because my body is used to waking up earlier for class. But I have felt amazingly good all today, and not mentally tired at all; that's what fascinates me the most. I'm a little sore, particularly my neck, my head, and my eyes (which I'm assuming is my usual mix of caffiene-sleep-stress-light-mini migraine issues), but I have not really felt tired at all in any of my classes.

So I need to find some time to experiment with this--try sleeping 3 hours every few nights and see if I get more tired because of it, I don't know. The weird part is that last night I ate almost an entire half-pint of Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream, and only 10 oz of Mountain Dew; and actually, watching HIMYM every so often actually woke me up more than stuff like eating (though you have to eat if you're going to stay up, because it's like adding on another evening to your meal without another dinner for energy).

Anyway, so I had a shit-ton of sugar and I'm doing okay and I will probably be up late again tonight. Ugh, so much work to catch up on. If I were just here on Friday rather than stuck in the frigging Denver airport for ten hours this weekend with nowhere to go, things would be significantly better.

We had a really interesting discussion in ethics today, too, which I will probably come back to.

(Oh, and in reference to the title--I've stayed up all night before, just not studying. I've done late nights for exams but never all night.)
