Apparently I'm immune to bad sci-fi when it comes to Halloween. Guess what's on TV, Melissa? Here's a hint: monkeyboobs.

That series had good imagery but I think they needed a little more storywork, just on the details, and, uh, a little bit better special effects, haha.

I also watched Blade last night instead of going to bed. Honestly, I do not really understand the appeal of vampires. I mean, I like classic Dracula (YEAH BELA LUGOSI) and the cheese that is Van Helsing. (That is, the new one.)

But, uh, all the modern stories where vampires are some uber-romantic tragedy sort of thing? I just... do noooooot understand it at all.

I think the appeal of vampires comes from the sensuality (not sex, but the physical aspects of being one) of their existence. What vampires are taps into some basic drives in ourselves that can only be "fulfilled" at the expense of others. The romantic/gothic crap got old a long time ago and even when they try to make them "serious" it still all comes across as woefully cliche.

Yeah, I just don't understand the appeal of that. It's so overdone.

I think Hollywood keeps up the cliche because it's so infused with pop culture now. Even though it wasn't a great show, Forever Knight tried hard to keep away from vampire cliches, though it still dipped into them when things got a little stale on the show (which happened a lot actually).

Huh, I've never heard of that. I think the only enjoyable vampire thing I've seen recently was a Neil Gaiman short where Snow White was a vampire and the "wicked queen" was just trying to save herself. It was really good.

...Also I was just reminded of Dracula Dead and Loving It, which I have not seen in forever.

"Vee should've put zum noosepapers down." -Van Helsing

"Forever Knight" was terrible! BTW, I didn't know you guys watched Canadian TV shows.

I like vampires and such, but the modern gothy type or the demon type ones are just lame to me.

Demon type, like Buffy or something? I never watched that show, but I'm not sure if that's what you meant.

Yeah, I think they work better as a horror feature. =P

You just killed me, I laughed so hard! Kim gave me a weird look until I explained. I saw that when I was flipping channels earlier, haha.

I missed the whole beginning, which is really the only good part. Parts two and three just... the story was not very well-written.

bahaha... i actually kind of love Buffy. It's really campy, but it kind of makes fun of the typical vampire idea. I mean, sure it's a vampire show, but it's addictive. And hilarious. And only every once in a while is there a whole episode that's serious.
Then again, I enjoyed Twilight too. I guess I know it's cliche, but for some reason it makes me happy =P

I'm sure Buffy's good, I mean, it's Whedon.

But Twilight scares the fucking shit out of me, and it's not well-written to boot.

please don't kill me, twihards

you definitely have a point there. i was actually kind of pissed about how badly written the last book was...

Haha, I try not to be a megabitch about it because honestly, I tried to read it (last year my roommates loved it, so I gave it a go) but it was just boring.

But from not reading the story I have read lots of the snark summaries and it is hard to believe that so many girls admire the story and would be okay with their lives being that way, dream-worlds or not... (If you're reading it as the literary equivalent of a twinkie, then... fair enough. But too many girls take it seriously.) It's just SO anti-feminist that it's rather disturbing. But I try not to talk about that too much.

Plus Twihards are ludicrously obsessive and that in itself is entertaining. ;D

...And if a few other people on my friends list read this I'm going to be attacked, lol!

haha yeah. I was really pissed with Bella most of the beginning - she was such a weakling most of the time. I mean, it got better, but still. I don't know. It was really fluff, but I enjoyed it for what it was.
