My up-to-date info on different issues is coming from international media (BBC). It's still rather frustrating that other countries are aware and to some extent involved (discussion, at the very least) in ours and we are so oblivious to others'. I cannot even name the president of Poland! Not even the one I met, and that was almost ten years ago. Mexico? Nothing. Canada? Nothing. England... Queen Elizabeth? ;P

This makes me feel like a failure in regards to my "global citizen" standing.

Yes, I suppose it is. But at this point, I really am searching, and it's always helpful to have people to help you out sometimes. A lot of what I'm doing, I really don't know about a lot anymore, so I hope actually talking about things, seeing what others say, will help.

It does for me. =) I would recommend joining communities here, too. They are great for making friends or just talking about things you have in common. (As you can tell, I'm in way too many, lol...)

You should know England's Prime Minister, at least - he's just as evil as Bush and went along with everything he did; they were co-war criminals together. Tony Blair.

Canada's PM? Stephen Harper. But he's of no consequence because he's never done or never will do anything. I have to think really hard to even remember his name and he supposedly runs my country. He's a non-entity. We JUST had our 'big' election and no one even went out to vote (because here, this time, it just didn't matter - not like it did with you guys) so he almost won by default.

I dunno who the president of Poland is either.

Oh true, I did know Tony Blair... but (showing my lack of foreign study, clearly) I thought he was the guy everyone loved?

By the way, how politically attached is Canada to England? I've been curious about all that sort of thing since I took a history class on the world empires and the modern age. (That and Australia and NZ and everything.)

It's generally considered Tony Blair is a puppet of Bush, who's a puppet of Cheney, who's acting only in the interest of profit for Halliburton Oil.

I think we 'declared our independence' form Britain in 1982 and haven't had much to do with them since (We haven't really had much to do with them since the 50's, really) - though there's always a crowd when the Queen comes to visit. That may just be because, as Paul "Due South" Gross says, "She has quite a rack!" J/K

Australia has even less to do with England than we do, and NZ far less than them.

That's speaking of the Monarchy, which is non-political. Politically, speaking, they're messed up in Jolly Ol' England and we've never had much to say about their affairs since we had to save them from the Nazis.

For the record, my Gran'pa was in the British Royal Air Force during WWII and my Mom was born near London.
