More Dead Man's Chest goodness and spoileryness! Haven't said anything in awhile... my CD has kept me entertained (until I found out it's scratched...gotta go see if I can return it!), lol.

And in not too much time I'm going to quit cutting the spoilers, so go watch the freakin' movie already!

I'm going to start out with my personal thoughts, then go back to what I've been reading in other communities and my thoughts on those.

First of all, it just seems wrong that Tia Dalma is Davy Jones' lover. I don't know why-- and even though she seemed very egotistical when telling her story-- it just doesn't seem right. And, you know me, being obsessed with apothecary and that type of trinkety-ness-- and with her being involved with voodoo, I'm guessing-- I think she helped Davy Jones remove his heart but keep him alive. And in order to protect his lover, she's holding the locket. OR she made it to help Jones deal with his pain (which theoretically isn't there because he took out his heart), OR she got it, stolen, from someone else.

Now, onto thoughts based on notes from other communities. Jack/Elizabeth is very, very, uncomfortable, and very wrong. Not like evil-- it was a necessary plot point and I think that THAT kiss was viable-- I just think that the shipping of them is not true to their characters.

Um, I read someone's article about how racist the entire series of movies is. First of all, these actors agreed to act these supposedly racist roles-- don't be offended for them. It's tacky. Second of all, those guys who were in the second cage and fell to their deaths? At least one was Indian, NOT black. DUH. Third, it's an ENTERTAINMENT movie! It's not trying to make some huge political statement about pirates, get over it. Also, pirates were drawn to the things they did to get away from a life of constriction by stereotypes, and from all over the earth-- NO SHIT THERE'S LOTS OF DIFFERENT RACES. Oh, and just becase Johnny Depp may be part Cherokee, doesn't mean his character is. NOTE THAT THESE CHARACTERS ARE NOT REAL PEOPLE, FOLKS.

Okay, moving onward. Someone was wondering how old Davy Jones is, because his ship and clothes appear period, and he's got a pipe organ-ish thing. And yes, he can get new clothes now and then, so that's explained away. As for the ship-- not only would it need repairs now and then, but the crew become a part of the ship-- theoretically whatever job suited them and was necessary. And as there was new ship techonology, crew turning over could become that. I mean, the bow of the boat was intended to look like a face. Oh, and one more thing-- it's fantasy.

I like this part. This is from the "Black Pearl 101" on the official DMC website. It's information enough to theorize for PotC3 but not be spoilery.

"Originally, the Black Pearl was a merchant vessel under the employment of the East India Trading Company named the Wicked Wench, helmed by Captain Jack. After refusing to complete an assignment, Lord Cutler Beckett sanctioned the torcking (and sinking) of the Wicked Wench, and branded Jack Sparrow a pirate. Jack petitioned Davy Jones to retrieve his ship that he rechristened as the Black Pearl."

Also on the website: the prison from where Jack escaped in the coffin is referred to as the "Turkish Prison," which some have alluded to as a reference to The Count of Monte Cristo. w00t!

Now, back to the thing about Jack. Here's my accumulated theory: Jack was raised as an honest, fairly wealthy, educated man. (Apparently the script for the first movie has him described as a cartographer-- which they followed up with nicely in the second movie.) He worked for the East India Trading Company until Beckett asked him to do some slave trading, which he disagreed to. This is theoretically Tia Dalma and the mourners in the swamp (which is what those candle-people seem to be). This is also the time when Tia Dalma and Jack may have gotten together-- which they did, according to the actress who played Tia Dalma, because she and Depp were allowed to decide some things about their characters such as that, and she expressed it in an interview. So Beckett branded him a pirate as a traitor (which I still wonder what mark Jack left on Beckett?) and burned the Wicked Wench, which, by the way, I think is a really lame name for a boat. Sorry, ship. Anyway. So Jack sells his soul for his ship and gets the compass from Tia Dalma and goes to get the treasure of Aztec gold-- people raised the question wondering why he didn't immediately seek out the heart, and honest to god this theory JUST popped into my head. He had heard that it could make you immortal, and by stealing the treasure and being immortal separately from Jones he could not die when he got his information, not die when he went into the torturous Turkish Prison for the picture of the key (which apparently may be a plot bunny in the next film b/c there is supposedly Chinese writing along the edge and we already know the third film involved some Asians-- but hopefully NOT Singapore) (also it's been asked why didn't he just go after the key? Something important there), would not die when he got the key wherever it was, and would not die when he got then chest, and then could get his soul back and sail off into the sunset with his beloved ship. ShaZAM, I am grood. Anyway, about 2 years into getting all the necessary information and crew, Barbossa mutinied and sailed for 10 years, cursed, with the Pearl as his own. Jack got it back, sailed for about a year, and then Jones finally caught up with him, with Jack's plan unfulfilled.

And this wonderfully interesting discussion of details-- how I love them: http://community.livejournal.com/triskaideka____/16644.html It's about the dice game, and simply fascinating.

So, yes, lots of clever plotwork that isn't quite spoilerish-- I do so love puzzles.

PLEASE no direct spoilers for PotC3-- I hate spoilers. It ruins my fun of putting together the pieces myself.

Lots of spoilers for DMC. And I have decided that on August 7th I will stop using LJ-cuts for pirateness, so go see the freakin' movie already! ...and I hate all the critics for saying it sucks-- it doesn't. It's just hard to follow if you've forgotten the first one, a bit. I will admit it relies a bit much on it, and obviously relies on the third as well, but oh well, better something than nothing! And I go to movies for entertainment only anyway, generally, and it did entertain me. Mission accomplished.
Oh, and I bought the Kraken song as my ringtone. =^n.n^= YAAAAY.
