DARK NIGHT WAS FUCKING AMAZING.

Before the movie even started, something happened to the reel and it wasn't feeding or something. So our movie started at least 45 minutes late, but it wasn't a problem for us because we had no other plans for the day. =D I think the only thing we really missed was the preview for Mummy III. Honestly, though, what was with the Dark Knight preview? Haha.

Anyway, so everyone got a free ticket out of the deal, but the jerks in front of us left, so they didn't really get a free ticket, just a readmittance ticket. HAHAHA to them. But you know what? I am SO glad they left. We were the first ones in the theatre this morning (other than the workers obviously-- but 9:30 showing) and we were just alking normally and being a little goofy like we are. Katy and I were singing Dr. Horrible because we both had it stuck in our heads, which is awesome because she knew about it even though she wasn't there last night when we watched it. =D And these guys kept rolling their eyes and shaking their heads at us as we sang along to the song (I had it on my phone) or talked about stuff (like the Indiana Jones trivia... heh) or the movies coming out or whatever. Clearly these guys had issues, with what, I don't know. It's not like the talk through the movie (I mean, we whisper, and very quietly, but still).

ANYWAY SO. Movie was awesome. I like watching movies with Katy because she notices a lot of weird things like I do and laughs at retarded things like I do, too. So I feel like less of an idiot when we're the only two laughing in the theatre, lol.

But damn... That was a great movie.

Probably spoilers in the comments, so watch yo'selves.

Oh, man, one of only two things that bothered me-- What are your opinions on the city itself? I think the last one was more like New York, darker and buildings closer together and dirtier, and obviously in this one it was supposed to be like Chi-town. (Wasn't it even filmed there, partly? Which, by the way, Katy and I DIED when they had part of a chase through the mall-- You can guess why.) But the buildings were super-clean and I felt like the town itself wasn't so... scary? Maybe that was supposed to be a reflection on the DA's (you know who I mean) part in things. I dunno.

Man, I dunno if it's the hype or what but I kind of sympathized with the Joker. =/ Not totally, of course; he's obviously crazy. Maybe I'm just a sucker for a good "screwin' the man" story. But annyway, Ledger's portrayal was fucking beautiful. At the same time, though, some review had a comment that the film didn't focus enough on Batman; which I think is very true, but I think it also made for a better story and a better sequel. The Joker's line about playing games and "I guess we're meant to chase eachother around forever" (or something similar) was rather saddening though. Also funny in that here we are, soooo many years after the original comics and we're still using these main villains.

Which, by the way, I wonder--if they make another, which I'm betting lots of money they will--who are they going to use? Can't go back to Joker or Two-Face, which, by the way, LOVED the coin bit. One reviewer/blogger (I dunno which) suspected/guessed (so what, makes it a rumor I guess) that it would be bat girl (Gordon's daughter, but I don't recall ever seeing her face in this film; so I don't think that's good forshadowing), and someone hoped they'd give a decent treatment to Catwoman. Which would be fucking badass, and I liked the last one (yeah, it's cheesy, like I care about cheese). I don't know enough about the Batman franchise to make any real guesses, but it would be nice to see some lesser known characters brought to light, like they did with Scarecrow and Ras Al Ghul (even though, I know, they messed up the stories a little). Then again, I am talking out my ass here. I don't know how popular Catwoman or Poison Ivy or Mr. Freeze or anyone else were before the 90's films. Riddler, I think it's pretty safe to say, was more well-known. I remember him and Penguin and Two-Face being on the old Saturday morning cartoon. Still talking out my ass here, but I could see Riddler and a Harley Quinn stepping up to get revenge for Joker or something, minus the fact the character didn't die (heh... now I feel bad I forgot and said that).

Totally unrelated, but I did like Batman Beyond and watched it more. So sue me...

Okay, so the things I said that bothered me, the other was the truck chase with Dent and Joker and Batman on his bike, where the bike climbs the wall and flipped over safely. That, to me, looked so fake. I would say "cgi" but it looked like a motorized model and Batman with a wax face! So I don't know what the fuck was up with that scene.

A weird part, didn't really bother me, in fact I think it's rather interesting; the movie just keeps snowballing, to the point that you don't know when it's going to end. Joker keeps pulling shit and Rachel keeps getting pulled back and forth between Dent and Wayne, and they keep chasing and chasing and chasing which is AWESOME. Especially because sequels usually suck hard core. But it got to the point like it felt like there was no end in sight, and suddenly, fucking BAM it all comes to a close. I liked that they did it that way. It felt more like a continuation of the story and not like a franchise suffering from sequelese. Same thing for Batman taking up less of the "main character" feel; no sequelese.

But anyway.

Oh, one last thing... Was Dawes character made up for the film? (First film, I mean.) Like I said, I don't read the comic, but I know there's always that Batman-Catwoman tension, but I never have really heard anything about a Lois-Lane-type character.

Ok, not last thing, I lied. The bat sonar? CRACKED ME UP. It was pseudotech and hilarious and I JUST LOVE BATS SO FREAKING MUCH. Haha...

My favorite part? The disappearing pen trick.

Oh man, Bond trailer = YES.
