I LOVE Halloween. Why? Costumes. I did a lot of shopping today, mostly for costumes. So, here's a general rundown of the costumes I'm working on; they're pretty much "growing costumes," meaning I have enough stuff to make them, but they have a long way to go to be what I am working to.
THE PIRATE:
My general pirate costume; it's actually my nicest one, because I've spent the most on it. It's currently my facebook picture, and I made it as historically accurate as you can be with thrift clothes and plastic weapons. Today I bought another $1 stubby flintlock at the dollar store to paint (it's orange and gold, definitely needs painting). I was excited when I got home and opened it because I found out it makes locking and firing noises, and lights up! (The light is kinda lame, honestly.) And some day I will get an actualy cutlass ($50, I know which one) and some better clothes. I don't feel like writing about this one right now, too much detail involved. A lot of it crosses over into my Mercat costume, which is even more complicated and not currently on my costume list (it needs TONS of work).
THE CYBORG/SPACE CADET:
This one needs finishing touches, but the general idea is to wear my old percussion uniforms (probably the gray and black pants [so it looks like boots] with the gray top, because the lines on it look kind of computer-y), with my black marching shoes, and get some silver or black prom gloves [didn't get those yet], and do silvery makeup and put on a fake computer-y eye [I know what I want to do here, but I don't have the stuff] and maybe some other computer-y looking "body parts." I bought a light-up wand I might be able to use. Once I get all the pieces, this would be a good mix-and-match costume, and easy. I just need to make my Cyborg Eye, lol.
THE WICKED WITCH OF THE WEST:
Well, in the musical Wicked, Elphie has this fuck-awesome dress once she's the Wicked Witch. I'm going to do a Wicked Witch costume with combination costumes of the "Wixard of Oz" movie witch, and the "Wicked" witch. I have a flowy skirt I'm using as the base right now, plus a black shirt and flowy top to wear. Eventually I'm going to get and old black prom/homecoming dress and use the bodice from that as a base to make a dress more like the musical one. It's going to be awesome. I also bought green nail polish, as a start to the super-expensive green makeup involved.
THE CITIZEN OF THE EMERALD CITY:
This might be my Halloween costume this year, just because I love it. I need to get green clothes, however, for this to work. Basically, in Wicked, the citizens of the emerald city have these awesome, awesome green outfits. Today I got shoes that will look pretty good (I'm going to tie them on my feet to make them fit and look better) (they look pretty antique-y style), and I own green tights. I saw a skirt I should have bought, it would have worked well. I own an AWESOME green beret with curlicues that would look pretty tight, but if I see something cooler I might work with that as well. I need to find some green-lensed glasses, though (all the citizens and visitors wear them). I looked at Spirit stores because I know they have these awesome black-framed antique-y glasses, and I was hoping they might have green lenses (last time they had purple and red), but they didn't. I meant to see if the hippie accessory kits had some, because I thought I saw some last time, but I forgot. So I was going to get some transparent green glass-colorer, but it was expensive, so, phooey for now. I'm also going to get green socks and cut them and wear them over my hands like old-timey glove-type thingies.
Otherwise... I got a kick-ass purple fedora, and it's fairly nice quality *shock*. I was also tempted to buy this black and gold kind of sheer overcoat thing to wear as a robe and make some kind of asian fortune-teller. I can do fortune teller, wench, and miscellaneous other costumes with all the stuff I have at home. I want to do Dr. Lao costumes and a Phantom costume eventually. I love costuming. Anyway, the Spirit stores have some other cool stuff... lots of sweet makeup stuff that would be good for doing the phantom's face, latex stuff you can put on and spirit gum and makeup and all that. They also sell these cheesy plastic "kryptonite crystals" that you put green glowsticks in for kid's saftey, but their shape is, um, slightly disturbing. HOWEVER, it would work really well if you wanted to make your own glowing fantasy staff, and it's something I'm basing some stuff off of. Halloween stuff gives me LOTS of craft ideas. =^n.n^=
So... probably more costuming stuff another time... I am so excited for Halloween! And Thanksgiving! And Christmas!
OH, and at Target I bought this four pack of 8 oz Jones Halloween Soda in Candy Corn (others being Spider Cider, something berry and Ghoulish Grape or something, but you couldn't buy a four-pack mixed, so I got the most Halloweeny one). One is reserved for Lara, and I'm doing this as a tribute to our nasty Jones Holiday Soda experience. By the way-- who has thoes bottles and who has pictures? I kind of want a bottle as proof, you know? Well, at least I'll have this can (it sounds terrible).
