omg siiiiiix daaaaaaays Welllll guess what, it rained again today! So I didn't get to take hat pics. But I did get the mood to play dress-up, still, so I ended up pulling together the pieces I have for my steampunk villain costume, dug some other pieces out to complete it, and took a few shots. I have to say, next time I need to get together with someone and actually take some good pics.
HOWEVER, DeviantArt is being a failure so they aren't posted right now, I'll let you know as soon as they are.
IN THE MEANTIME! I actually posted photos from spring break somewhere OTHER than facebook! So here we goooo, Raiders stuff from Kauai!
So first off we have a shot of the falls, taken from the center of the falls, looking at where you come in. It's weird because you walk down this kind of overgrown path, and all of a sudden BAM you're standing at the top of a waterfall. It's kind of disorienting because I didn't know the path came in over the falls, so I had to walk downstream and climb down a pretty good wall and climb my way across the stream to get to the area where Raiders was filmed.
So then you get over to the other side of the falls. Here's my "OMG I'M STANDING WHERE RAIDERS FIIIIIIIIILMED" shot (with my dad waving in the background. I put my backpack on a log and set the timer, and he caught me running and posing and waved):
If you compare it to screenshots, you can tell that when they filmed Raiders the water level was down a LOT and the area had been cleared of a lot of the grasses near the water level. (And the huge pile of sticks.)
It's not actually as overgrown as it looks in all the pictures. It all kind of blends together in photos, but when you're crawling around it, it really isn't bad at all. =P I would just suggest shoes better than chucks and be prepared for walking into spiderwebs (with HUGE SPIDERS AUGH), and some gloves. Coming back around (downstream, and then kind of straight up the bank, and around to the falls), when you're crossing the stream you definitely have to hop rocks if you're as short as me, and climbing up the hill I basically was clinging to trees and roots and grasses, and on the way back I grabbed some nettle-ish grass that hurt.
Here's a shot of the styrofoam remains of the set; they're pretty overgrown:
They were pretty well hidden behind a tree up the other side of the bank across from the falls. I think the gearhead who went before me took some of the bigger pieces that were washing away, so what's left is pretty buried. I grabbed a few loose pieces, though one of them was pretty covered in thin roots holding it still. (I think I kind of broke it pulling it away.) Here's the pieces I got all laid out (I think the bigger one that kind of broke finally broke traveling around in my bag through airport security):
The biggest piece is about the size of my fist (whereas the other guy was getting pieces a foot or two long). I'm guessing the huge one buried in my other pic might be about that big, but it would take some serious digging.
Here's Paramount Peak, this photo taken right off the road:
It's really prominent pretty much anywhere on the east shore of Kauai, but it doesn't look like Paramount Peak until you drive around toward the Northern Side. I forget the exact name, but the local (aka real) name is something like the Sleeping Giant. From the other side it does look a lot more like a face and stuff.
Okay! Here is me sitting outside the movie tours place that used to take you to the Raiders locations. (Now I think it takes you places more like Blue Hawaii and stuff, but I think my mom called and they said they didn't go there anymore.) The tiki is apparently carved by the same guy who did the one at the beginning of Raiders, but it's not exactly the same. It was kind of funny, by chance I saw it across the street and I went "OH, NEAT TIKI, I think it's based on something Mayan! And then I went NO, RETARD, it's Indiana Jones!" w0000000000000000t.
Okay! So that's the basics. I would have posted more but I have to conserve flickr space for all my other craziness. =P
Let's see... I had some bizarre dreams last night, and I definitely slept in waaaaaaaaay too long. I did some mowing, though, and I found this really washed-up paper chain, fake flowers, and other stuff hanging in one of the decorative smaller tree-bushes, which definitely gave me a WTF for now. My parents told me James put it up for Laura on Valentine's Day (awww), but... lol. Since Valentine's Day? That's almost 100 days. (My 100 days countdown started then? Or no, it was 97 days and the first trailer came out? I can't remember.) In the meantime I was having fun trying to come up with interesting theories, and my favorite was that one of those giant balloon baskets had been released with helium and popped, and nobody had noticed.
I actually got on the treadmill and did my OKgo workout, too! It was ROUGH, but I really need to keep it up. =) However, my good running shoes are being shipped home, so I had to dig out my old silver shoes, which are not at all meant for running. I could feel it because I almost slipped twice on the treadmill and my ankles and knees were killing me. I wonder if it was part of the cause of my hip problems before? I really haven't had my hip pop in a while, which is a good thing.
Ooookay. Tomorrow I will be up earlier! Hopefully. =P
Tomorrow is BW3 trivia night, if I can convince some of the people I invited to actually go... =/ I don't really want to be hanging out at BW3's by myself at 10 pm.
Also, this weekend is the St. Brigid festival! YAY THRIFTING FOR PROP STUFF.
