The Daily Adventures of Mercat

Spoilers ahoy! My unfiltered thoughts on Pirates IV.

( SPOILERS, ye be warned )



By-the-by, came with a preview for the next Muppet movie, coming out Thanksgiving with Jason Segel. And Amy Adams, which I didn't know about so OMG SO EXCITED. :D

Also: boots were a success. A little pinchy in the toes after five hours, sadly, but we shall see. Pissed I still haven't heard anything about my hat coming in, FUCKING SERIOUSLY. I WANT MY FUCKING PIRATE HAT.

I think my personal motto should "be badass, daily". I was kind of in a depressive funk yesterday, not really sure why. It was a bunch of little, unimportant dramas that I think just kind of banded together and unleashed a wave of upset. Meh, I'm pretty much over it today. I think the perfect timing of Not-Troll is partly to blame =)

So last Friday during our meetings I found out that my little, Sarah, is a sci-fi geek as well. I don't know if I posted this already (I think I may have), but I just like to appreciate the closet-sci-fi-ness of some girls in Phi Rho. I try not to be too loud about my geek cred (except Indy and drum corps, duh), but sometimes I find myself doing geekily embarassing things despite it. Like yesterday I texted my sister because I know she loves Dali's elephants, and I saw a tattoo (here) of a Dali-styled AT-AT. So I appreciate it on a nerd level, and she and I both appreciate it on a fine art level. But it also reminds me of when we drove down to OBX last summer and Uncle Steve pointed at these utility frameworks (some shipping docks, or something, maybe?) in the distance, and he said they looked like those things from Star Wars, and I knew what he meant and said AT-ATs, and he was just like... yeah... sure, whatever. But then again, he is rather one of the more condescending people in our family and we, as a family, have a very strong we-will-mock-you-mercilessly dynamic. So.

ANYWAY, my point was, one, that I love my little, but furthermore she started geeking out about Weta Workshops and I didn't realize they did all of LotR, which I totally respect them for, and now I'm wondering how Sarah and Kimmie and I can start our own set/prop/costume company, because that is what we all want to do. I love my little so much! :D We are going to have a nerd-movie night (Dork Night?) and probably watch Star Wars and something else, maybe Firefly, I dunno, and make puppy chow. Yum.

Also, I want to take her to see Star Trek when it comes out because I doubt I could convince anyone else to go with me. LOL.

We saw them tonight. =D

Let's see, Lara and Pat and Christina showed up around 7:30 and we all sat down and played Apples to Apples. A little bit before David was going to get here, we stopped for a pizza and tea break. David got here and we all chatted in the kitchen for a little bit, then resumed Apples to Apples. (Somehow, I dominated. Usually I have terrible luck with that game. [Ooooor I appreciate irony and cynicism significantly more than anyone else I've ever played with.]) After we played through most of the deck, Pat and Christina left because they had stuff to do, and David and Lara and I just hung out and chatted (and had some interesting conversatios, LOL).

Let me just say, the add-on decks for Apples to Apples? You can't just play that deck, you have to shuffle them in. 90% of the new cars are "_____ & _____" which gets annoying VERY quickly.

Anyway. Lara and David shuffled off around midnight, and Laura and I played some Guitar Hero while James passed out on the couch, and now here I am.

I am VERY excited for the beach next week =D And taking a break to work on some art and stuff.

Definitely going to be very busy tomorrow, though, I need to pack and clean the house and clean my room and clean my shoes and mow the lawn! BUT I will do it... And Saturday we will be in NORTH CAROLINA WOO WOO! Tortugas Lie here I come...

There is something about OBX I love... Maybe the smell... I love breezes. =) They are instant relaxation.

Hopefully I won't get motion-sick in the car. =( I used to be able to read in the car, no problem, but I've started feeling queasy even on short trips... =( =( =(
